Rolling Meadows Country Club meanders through the hills and valleys of the Ellington, Connecticut countryside. It offers golfers views of the surrounding valleys and hills that are ubiquitous with Ellington.

The front nine features the rolling hills and gently undulating greens of Ellington. It seems to welcome players with spacious landing areas and shorter par 4s. While the back nine demands accuracy as fairways are narrowed by towering trees. The longer par 4s on the back nine help this course stretch to almost 7,000 yards from the back tees.

Resistance to scoring grows as the difficulty grows from the front nine to the back nine. The course’s ideal lines to the holes become smaller and straighter. Fewer trees cover the front, which allows for green complexes to be open to shots from all angles. This enables players to have an easier time recovering from miss-hits and offline shots. The back nine is lined with trees as it climbs up the hill away from the rolling meadow below. The lines to the holes become tighter, and angles to the holes become straighter.

The elevation change on the course is subtle. Most golfers will not notice the slow climb on the back nine. Each hole slowly takes golfers up the hill until the 18th hole as the routing returns golfers to the clubhouse. The second hole features a dramatic drop into the meadow, then there is little elevation change until the 8th and 9th holes, foreshadowing what is to come on the back nine.

The course is maintained well while presenting pleasing views of the course to golfers on holes 8 and 17. The tightly cut fairways to well-manicured greens of Rolling Meadows adds a beautiful contrast to the scenic views of the land surrounding the golf course.

The course favors the straight hitter. Those that work the ball will find the back nine much more challenging compared to the front nine. The straight ball flight will suit golfers well here. There are single lines to take to most of the holes.

Golfers will enjoy that the course is in excellent condition, and it is a bargain to play here for less than $50. A family business since its inception, golfers will find a friendly staff and laid back atmosphere.

The back nine also has some of the more spectacular views at Rolling Meadows of the area. From the 12th and 13th holes, there are almost 180-degree views of the Berkshire mountain range, which rises in the distance. There are also pleasant views of the golf course within the golf course. On the 8th hole, there are three viewable holes from the tee box that adds nicely to the ambiance of playing rolling meadows.
